If your goal in life is to make the world a better place, you should probably pursue a job in Healthcare. The list Most Meaningful Healthcare Jobs in America According to Pay Scale and the percentage of over 2 million professionals who thinks there work is meaningful,in each of those jobs.
I’m both a surgical technologist and a sterile processing technician, with over 20 years cumulative experience. Even if I combined my annual salaries from doing both jobs it wouldn’t average $77K a year.
That picture is inaccurate and so is that pay. The only accurate part of this article is that we are under appreciated. I would love to know where those numbers came from.
Sterile processing tech is definitely the heart of the hospital but they are so under appropriated and under paid for the stress from the OR and surgeons. Staff techs probably make between 15.00 an HR to 22.00 and HR unless your a lead, supervisor, or director. Travelers can make close to 68,000 a year. So this assumption of techs making 77,000 a year is inaccurate.
