  1. First off, the BLS survey only records that which is reported to it. If your $9/h squad/employees do not report, it is not recorded. It does not separate EMT, B, I vs P because they are all EMT’s. In order to cycle down that number and make true averages, they would have to do three separate surveys. That is like asking them to break down nurses, and all of their specialties individually. Guess what, its not going to happen. The purpose of this is, “here is the overview, translate the data as you wish”. Or in reality, just ask each other.

  2. Why would you average EMT and Medics salaries together? There is no breakdown of how many EMTs verses Paramedics were included in the averaging. Why were they not broken down individually? The figures are very misleading. I don’t know any EMTs who are making anywhere near $14.00 an hour. Don’t really know that many Medics making that either. Really questionable report, suspect on several levels.

  3. The most recent salary data on the BLS site is from May 2016, not May 2017. I question the motives behind this post.

  4. Lexington County EMS in South Carolina is above average then because we start EMT’s out at a little over $39,000 and Paramedic Crew Chiefs over $47,000. We work 12 hour shifts (84 hours a pay period) with a 3 day weekend every other week, run 911 only so no transports (IFT, Dialysis, Doctor Appts, etc) and paid training.

    1. Southern Indiana as a basic EMT I only make 13.60 an hour part time. Full time makes a litle over 14 an hour. In my honest opinion, No state pays Medics or EMTs what they are worth. For what we go thru on any given shift along with all the dangers of the job, absolutely should be better compensated than what you could get paid at a fast food place. Just saying. I only do this job because I truly care about every single patient I assist or treat. I have a good paying full time job but my passion is truly in helping others thru EMS… No amount of pay gives me more excitement than seeing a smile on a patient’s face and the respect I get for helping them.
