Registered nurses in California earn the highest average annual salary of RNs in the U.S. at $101,260, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Hawaii is a close second at $90,130 followed by Massachusetts, Alaska and Oregon.
Here are the average hourly wage and salary for registered nurses in all 50 states, based on BLS data gathered in May 2015, listed in alphabetical order.
Is this supposed to be the starting wage…. entry level/new grad?? If so then Iowa is accurate. If not then it is way off.
Cost of living does play a huge role in wages. I live in Alabama. We aren’t the most but not the least either. COL here isn’t that bad. Wish I could work in California & live in Alabama. That would be a nice pay increase.
And yet nurse educators make no where near this hourly rate in most of these states. We are graduating people who make more than those of us with masters degrees and 20+ years experience. Sad
But the liability, exposure, all of the orthopedic injuries that come with nursing the backbreaking physicality of it all is surely worth what bedside nurse make. Now with EPIC and other electronic charting we are expected to give excellent care AND chart for a third of our shifts. We make what we are worth in California.
not in the island if Saipan its starting at $11.99 to $16.00 per hr Saipan is part of CNMI which isa US territory
RNs in California need to make more than stated as the cost of living is so high there. Who could buy a house in CA with that wage? COL needs to be considered before people freak out about salaries.
Exactly!
Correct. I live and work in Cali. I am moving back to Washington because I cleared a lot more there…no state tax and the COL is much less.
