Giving an effective report is critical and can save so much time.
It is so critical that we keep our patients stories organized, manage our time efficiently, and communicate clearly so that we directly enhance patient recovery. Even the most seasoned nurses use a report sheet of some type to make sure they are passing along all critical information to oncoming shift. I have updated this post and included a new PDF of the exact report sheet I use every single shift and patient. There is a lot going on and ratios are not always ideal.
