Poll: Do you agree with breaking SUV’s windows during N.J. fire response?

Firefighters rushed to a pre-dawn blaze, a fire at a vacant house was extinguished and nobody was injured. Overall, the response by Pennsauken crews could be considered a success.

There’s just one thing: Did they have to break two windows on an illegally-parked car to douse the fire?

“This person made the conscious decision to park in front of the fire hydrant. Windows can be replaced; people cannot,” Pennsauken fire Chief Jospeh Palumbo said.

  1. Me being a volunteer firefigher myself, I say yes, this fire dept. Was in the right by far. We can’t run the line under A) there’s no way of gettING it under and B) even if you could the line wouldn’t charge properly. Also, we can’t run it across the side of the car cause it woulove kinked and ruined the line and possibly cause someone to be sent to the hospital. I agree with their chief “Windows can be replaced; people cant” were there to save lives, not windows.

  2. He’s lucky they didn’t put a leaking joint inside the car and flood it internally. Add a little cement and mix!
To the driver: You can’t fix stupid.

  3. Being a firefighter/paramedic I say yes. Saving a person’s life is more critical than some dumbest parking his vehicle next to a hydrant knowing that at any second that hydrant could be used. Maybe the person should retake their drivers test.

  4. They could have run the hose over the roof of the car. But I think the firefighters were within their rights. If that person sues, they are going to court with dirty hands. They won’t win. Parking in front of a fire hydrant is illegal DUMBASS!

  5. If I ever see a car parked in front of a hydrant on a scene and we need water, heck yeah I am breaking it!
