RN average hourly wage & salary for all 50 states — Calif. tops the list at $101k

Registered nurses in California earn the highest average annual salary of RNs in the U.S. at $101,260, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Hawaii is a close second at $90,130 followed by Massachusetts, Alaska and Oregon.

Here are the average hourly wage and salary for registered nurses in all 50 states, based on BLS data gathered in May 2015, listed in alphabetical order.

  1. Where I live in TN, starting wage is $19 for new grad in the level 1 emergency room! What a joke comparatively!

  2. Location and state size also need to be considered. In VA if you live near DC area you make more if you live in less populated egions like South west corner the salary is considerably less. Also must consider this is average. New grads will make less and experienced and specialty will make more. Misleading for people looking to start in the nursing field. It may take years to reach this salary average.
